FAQ

What is NDIS?

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, which is an Australian government initiative to provide support and funding to people with a permanent and significant disability. The NDIS aims to provide people with disabilities with access to a range of services and support, such as therapy, equipment, personal care, and community participation. Participants can choose their own service providers and develop a plan that is tailored to their individual needs and goals.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) programs are developed for clients with disabilities through the NDIS and can be fully funded to aid with the financial costs associated with meeting your rehabilitation goals. What is an Exercise Physiologist and how are they associated with NDIS?

An Exercise Physiologist is a healthcare professional who specialises in the design, delivery, and evaluation of exercise programs for individuals with various health conditions and disabilities. Exercise physiologists have expertise in the physiological and biomechanical responses to exercise, and are trained to develop safe and effective exercise interventions that help improve health outcomes and quality of life.

In relation to NDIS, exercise physiologists can play an important role in the development and implementation of exercise programs for individuals with disabilities. They can work closely with participants, their families, and other healthcare providers to develop exercise plans that are tailored to the individual’s specific needs and goals.

Exercise Physiologists can help NDIS participants to improve their physical fitness, manage chronic diseases or disabilities, and prevent secondary complications related to their condition. They can also help participants to improve their overall health and wellbeing, by incorporating exercise into their daily routine and providing education on healthy lifestyle habits.

Additionally, Exercise Physiologists can provide support and guidance to NDIS participants in accessing community-based physical activity programs, such as gym facilities or sports clubs. They can work with these programs to ensure that they are inclusive and accessible for individuals with disabilities.

Overall, Exercise Physiologists can play an important role in the holistic care of NDIS participants, helping them to achieve their goals and maximize their potential through the benefits of exercise.

What Will My Initial Appointment Look Like?

During an initial NDIS Exercise Physiology Appointment, individuals can expect to undergo a thorough assessment of their current physical abilities and health status. The appointment will typically start with a discussion about the individual’s medical history, including any past injuries, surgeries, or health conditions. This information will help the Exercise Physiologist to develop a safe and effective exercise plan that considers any limitations or risk factors.

Next, the Exercise Physiologist will conduct a series of physical assessments to determine the individual’s current level of fitness and any areas of strength or weakness. These assessments may include measurements of body composition, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, and balance. The Exercise Physiologist may also perform functional movement assessments to determine how well the individual is able to perform everyday activities.

Based on the results of the assessment, the Exercise Physiologist will work with the individual to develop a personalized exercise program that is tailored to their specific needs and goals. The program will be designed to help the individual improve their overall fitness, manage any health conditions or disabilities, and prevent secondary complications related to their condition.

Throughout the appointment, the Exercise Physiologist will provide education and guidance on healthy lifestyle habits, such as nutrition, stress management, and sleep. They will also explain the benefits of exercise for health and wellbeing, and how to incorporate physical activity into daily life.

Overall, an initial NDIS Exercise Physiology Appointment is an opportunity to receive expert guidance and support in developing a safe and effective exercise plan that is tailored to an individual’s unique needs and goals. The Exercise Physiologist will work closely with the individual to ensure that the program is enjoyable and achievable, with the aim of improving their overall health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
